Ranked 7th port of the North European range stretching from Le Havre to Hamburg, the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque is also France's leading port for imports of ores and coal, the leading French port for containerised fruit imports, the leading French port for copper imports and the second French port for trade with Great Britain. Located on the North Sea, only 1 hour 30 minutes' sailing from the world's busiest shipping lane (600 ships per day), the Port of Dunkirk offers excellent nautical access and a large reserve of space. Its facilities allow it to receive all types of goods and the largest ships. It stretches over 17 km and has two maritime entrances: the older one to the east, limited to ships with a draught of 14.2 metres (the East Port), and the more recent one to the west, which can accommodate ships with a draught of up to 22 metres (the West Port).
