The history of PT Pelayaran Tonasa Lines began with capital participation by the pension fund, the Semen Tonasa Welfare Foundation, PT PBM Biringkassi Raya, the Semen Tonasa Employees' Cooperative and PT EMKL Topabiring, which laid the foundation for the company. PT Pelayaran Tonasa Lines was legally established on 8 February 1989 by Deed No. 61, later amended by Deed No. 4 of 2 November 1989, ratified by the Minister of Justice and published in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia on 29 December 1992. Starting out by chartering a few wooden vessels, PT Pelayaran Tonasa Lines sailed to distribute cement between the islands of Indonesia. With a commitment to improving service quality for its business partners, especially PT SIG (as the largest producer in Indonesia), and maintaining productivity, PT Pelayaran Tonasa Lines has grown into a reputable company that today has more than 1,000 business partners and 3 business units.
